Are We on the Verge of the End of Days and Jesus Christ’s Return?
The past few years have seen an increasing amount of unprecedented events happening throughout the world, from weather to social unrest to natural disasters. Environmentalist are quick to blame Climate Change in an effort to push their carbon credit system and gain more control over the populations’ lives. However, Climate Change does not and cannot explain such things as the shift in the polar ice caps reported by NASA back in 2016. No one can argue that changes to our entire world and our society are happening on an increasingly grander scale even daily, but the struggles we are now facing were foretold.
It is not a hard sell to say that as mankind has increased in technological advancements, it has also increased in its ability to harm and kill each other. Even if our actions don’t always display it, our thoughts, frustrations, and tempers do. We are sinful and we are not perfect despite our good intentions. Even the blind eyes we have towards such things as abortion and genocide are allowed to happen in parts of the world we don’t talk about. We have earned judgement from God. It is man’s arrogance that built the Tower of Babel, as it is our own arrogance to think we can control the weather, our molecular make-up as humans, or the very universe around us. This inevitably leads to the question, ‘just because we can do something does it mean we should?‘ We are a fallen world who has lost the moral compass of God, so we answer that question poorly all too often.
My hope of this article is to better illustrate the increasing connections between significant events in our world today and those events foretold in the Bible as the End of Days. The book of Revelation describes the return of Jesus Christ having the precursor of “Seal Judgements,” “Trumpet Judgements,” and “Bowl judgements” happening like labor pains before a baby is delivered. Mathew 24:37-39 describes that time before the judgements:
37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
Today we are seeing these “labor pains” increase in intensity and frequency around the world, and some even appear almost like a trailer before the full movie production. For example, today we are seeing extreme heat, flooding, disease, and locusts in “biblical” proportions never before seen. These are only a few of the judgements which will happen but will take place on a global scale.

Another of these labor pains coming into the End of Days is described “as in the days of Noah.” In the Days of Noah fallen angels were producing offspring with women and giving birth to giants known as the Nephilim. Goliath from the story of David and Goliath was one of these Nephilim also known as the “Men of Renown.” Genesis 6:4-8 described this:
4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
In essence the genetic pool of mankind had been so poisoned that these mighty men were unstoppable and spreading like a disease through all people. Similarly, we have reached such technological advancement and arrogance that we have begun editing the human genome and DNA which can also spread through all people in ways we cannot possibly imagine. These things are being accomplished with a rising belief and goal of merging man with machine known as Transhumanism. This belief has become so prevalent that increasing numbers of adults as excited about the prospect of having microchips inserted into their brains. Babies’ DNA can now be edited and altered while still in the womb. These babies are referred to as CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) babies.
Israel: Jews Establishing Their Own State in a Day
On the evening of May 14, 1948 the members of the People’s Council in Israel signed the proclamation and the declaration was made that the State of Israel was established. Israel had become a state in one day. The significance of this is referenced in Isaiah 66:8:
8 Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children.
Israel is also referred to as a “fig tree” throughout the Bible:
10 “When I found Israel, it was like finding grapes in the desert; when I saw your ancestors, it was like seeing the early fruit on the fig tree. But when they came to Baal Peor, they consecrated themselves to that shameful idol and became as vile as the thing they loved. – Hosea 9:10
Then the timeline of events is described in Matthew 24:32-35:
32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
So how long is a generation? The Bible answers that question:
10 Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. – Psalm 90:10
Whether the End of Days begin in 2021 or some other time in the future, the lesson is to be ready for Christ’s return. There is no shortage of theories of his exact return, as it says in the Bible, not even the angels no the day or the hour.
Israel Building the 3rd Jewish Temple
Another Biblically prophesied sign of the End of Days is the building of the 3rd Jewish Temple in Israel. This is explained well at Prophecy Today:
The prophet Daniel explains why –
“And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” – Dan. 9:26, 27
The term ‘seventy weeks’ is literally ‘seventy sevens’ , and refers to 490 prophetic years (70 x 7 = 490). Note: Throughout the Bible a prophetic year is a 360 day year. The time period threescore and two weeks brings us to the exact day Jesus entered Jerusalem on His Triumphant entry. I teach on this timeline in the article Daniel’s 70 Weeks – Part 1. In this scripture I want to point out “the people of the prince that shall come” shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. We know that the Romans did just that soon after Jesus was crucified, in 70 AD. Therefore the “prince that shall come” is connected to Rome. This prince will confirm the covenant with Israel for 7 years but, he will break it in 3½ years. This will be the ‘man of sin’ Paul speaks about which we call the Antichrist. He will set himself up in the Sanctuary and proclaim himself as god. This 7 year covenant will begin the 70th week of Daniel’s prophesy and the last 3½ years will be the ‘great tribulation’ period Jesus spoke about.
“When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: … For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.” – Matt. 24:15 – 21.
Now I want to point out that this Antichrist cannot commit the abomination of desolation until the Temple exists again.
In order for Jesus to return there must be a “sanctuary, ” a temple again. The 2nd Jewish Temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D., 1,951 years ago.
Four Prophecies Involving Israel and Their Enemies
With the recent failures by the Biden Administration in Afghanistan, namely emboldening the Taliban and giving them enough military weapons for a small country, this has actually set the stage for great geo-political unrest in the Middle East while signally that the U.S. is weak. Displaying this kind of weakness invites bad actors to push boundaries and borders, and leaves Israel in a very precarious position. This unrest creates the precursor to 4 possible prophecies being fulfilled from the Bible as the lead up to the End of Days. I encourage you to read these chapters further.
Damascus destroyed
Isaiah: 17:1
1 See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins.
Prophecy of Elam
Jeremiah 49
35 This is what the Lord Almighty says: “See, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might.”
Muslims attack Israel
Psalm 83
1 Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”
Battle of Gog-Magog
Ezekiel 38 & 39
16 You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud that covers the land. In days to come, Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.
Damascus destroyed
With the rest of the world seeing how little the Biden Administration will stand by its own American citizens abroad and even American Allies, many Middle Eastern countries have become emboldened either to preemptively strike or prepare to attack. The stability that existed with a strong U.S. is now being shaken by its currently weak leadership. One example of this may be the missile launches by Israel into Syria.
Prophecy of Elam
Iran’s nuclear power plant is in the region known as Elam. Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz stated:
“The State of Israel has the means to act and will not hesitate to do so. I do not rule out the possibility that Israel will have to take action in the future in order to prevent a nuclear Iran,”
“Iran is only two months away from acquiring the materials necessary for a nuclear weapon. We do not know if the Iranian regime will be willing to sign an agreement and come back to the negotiation table and the international community must build a viable ‘Plan B’ in order to stop Iran in its tracks towards a nuclear weapon.”
Muslims attack Israel
With a weaker U.S., the confidence that Israel once enjoyed by having an ally like the U.S. may give a green light for Muslim countries to attack Israel outright.
Battle of Gog-Magog
This prophesied battle of Gog-Magog is a unified attack on Israel by Turkey, Iran, Ethiopia, Russia, and others in the region. What makes this attack so special is that their attack will fail because God will supernaturally protect Israel from harm. Israel being unharmed in this battle will have no reasonably explanation other than the will of God. Russia is already starting to make inroads with Saudi Arabia.
With the manufactured Covid-19 pandemic, it has made it mush easier for government leaders to establish mandates to tighten control over the population. One way in which this is happening is the development of Vaccine Passports. These are being created to restrict movement of the population and further restrict actions such as travel, buying, or selling. The early plans have discussed using an app on your mobile phone for this function but the technology already exists for this function to be served with an implanted chip in the hand. This may not be the “Mark of the Beast” prophesied in the book of Revelation but it is clearing setting the stage and framework for this mandate to go global.
16 It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. – Revelation 13:16-17
The Bible says that Christ will return like a thief and that we will not know the day or the hour, but we will know the season.
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. – 2 Peter 3:10
—
30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth[a] will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. – Mathew 24:30-34
No time in human history have we had the technology for someone or something to be seen throughout the world all at the same time. Because of the Internet, we have that technology now.
7“Look, he is coming with the clouds,” and “every eye will see him, even those who pierced him”; and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.” So shall it be! Amen. – Revelation 1:7
Another prophesy of the End Times is this:
10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.
12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.15 “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand—
There may be some debate whether the Gospel has been preached to ‘all nations’ but again with the help of the Internet and many translations of the Bible being available, this could very likely be fulfilled.
Yet another sign of the End Times is the growing increase in the persecution of Christians.
9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. – Matthew 24:9-13
The Rapture
The Tribulation is the 7 year period where God judges the godless of mankind, as described in Revelation Ch. 6-18. This is different from the Great Tribulation, which is the later 3 1/2 year half of the Tribulation period where the Antichrist will be revealed and the Wrath of God will intensify. The Rapture is the moment when believers in Jesus Christ will “meet the Lord in the air.”
13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.
16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words. – 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
We do not know the day or hour but there are 4 views of when the Rapture will occur in the End of Days:
- Pre-Tribulation – Before the Tribulation
- Pre-Wraith – Before the ‘Great Day of Wrath (Rev. 6:17, 1 Thess 5:9)
- Mid-Tribulation – Mid-Point of the Tribulation
- Post-Tribulation – End of Tribulation
The Bible has a serious warning to those who align with Satan and turn their back on God and his Son Christ Jesus who sacrificed his life to pay for our sins in this fallen world.
9 I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you. 10 Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth. – Revelation 3:9-10
That being said, Jesus wishes for all people to turn toward him and seek him out. Despite whatever we have done, nothing can separate us from the love of God found in Christ Jesus Our Lord (Romans 8:38).
Without knowing the day or the time the lesson we can learn is to Be Ready. We are experiencing very unprecedented events in our world today, some have not happened in nearly 2,000, and some of those events could never have happened until today. I am sorry to say but we have dark days ahead, whether it is the continued Covid-19 tyranny or a severely unstable geo-political environment. Many of these events have been foretold and come as a warning for believers and non-believers alike. I promise you, if you seek out Jesus, he will find you (Mathew 7:7). Like I tell my family often, ‘pray for the things you cannot control‘ which is most things in our lives.
Like I said at the beginning of this article, my goal was to better illustrate connections between what is happening today and what has been foretold in the Bible. This way you may better understand events and signs when they happen in the future. Our world is changing so fast now that staying actively informed is a daily challenge. Hold the Word of God as a standard against all things, all churches, and all beliefs. It is filled with many stories of God’s countless love and forgiveness for all mankind, and when reading it you never walk away empty. I wish for you God’s blessing and that we all find guidance through Christ in the days ahead. Amen.
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16

In answer to the question of “are we on the verge of the end times,” then my answer would be yes and you’ve fairly well substantiated it in this very well-written article. Thank you.
Thank-you very much for the comment, Billie. It is greatly appreciated.
